Contemporary Jewelry Designer's Philosophy
Gems talk...
and
when I listen I find unique and unusual ways….. combinations
of gemstones that work for color and cut.
They
work to balance each other. The unique color and cut of the gemstones
is the motivator behind the designs without which you would have
the same old jewelry you see every day.
Gems
are the instruments of design. And simplicity is almost always
the most enduring value of a piece of jewelry.
Each
gem has its own personality that evolves into something creative. My
job is to take the gemstone from a totally rough rock, a raw state
that has life and beauty, unearth it and forward it to a physical
form, into a sparkling beautiful gem set in gold to highlight the
primitive soul.
What distinguishes my contemporary jewelry designs from so many others?
It is EXTRAORDINARY ….unparalleled
craftsmanship, quality materials, simple, fluid designs…..
It is EXCLUSIVE…….unique,
inspired, signed originals created only ONCE…..what sets
us apart, sets you apart…
It is EXCEPTIONAL…….Masterful
strokes, pure form in 18Kgold…distinctive, exciting artistic
style with a European tradition of sophistication and attention
to detail…
It is ENDURING…. handmade,
hallmarked, precious and timeless, an investment like no other.…… choose
the finest, make quality your choice……..
It is ELEGANT…. where
jewelry becomes art, no machine can duplicate the art of fine jewelry…imaginative,
refined and tastefully executed

Contemporary Jewelry Designer's History
Beginning
my career as an apprentice to my brother in law in the quaint Gastown
district of Vancouver BC I found my hands had the touch and my
heart the desire to create beautiful pieces of individual jewelry. Studying
in Austria under some of the finest masters in Europe at the International
School of Fine Arts I have continued refining my artistry for the
past 35 years.
From a startup studio in the
earliest years in Ligonier Pa I moved to Bainbridge Island Wa where
I spent 20 years at the bench stocking my own gallery with individual
pieces and doing commission work for local Seattle jewelry connoisseurs.
After reaching a plateau with the rainy weather my wife and I moved
to Maui then back to the mainland to the Outer Banks and finally
settled in West Palm Beach Fl. Yes, we put a few miles under
our belt but I have continued to pursue my artistry. Wanting
to move one last time we have decided that a website is the retail
future for us to leave me freer to practice what I love but have
the freedom to semi retire.
How fine jewelry is made
Each
custom jewelry design is handcrafted, some are cast, some
are fabricated but all are made using old world
techniques. FINE JEWLERY is an art form achieved
by hand not by machine. Fine jewelry created by
the lost wax methid begins with a piece of wax carved very carefully
with small tools and a small flame of fire into a design for an
individual piece, The carved wax is placed in a plaster type mold
and heated to approximately 1500 degrees eliminating the wax and
leaving an impression of the desired piece. The chosen karat
grains of gold are then melted with a torch into liquid form and
poured into the mold. If experience teaches anything
a very raw formed piece of gold is now ready for finishing. By
grinding, buffing and polishing for hours the finished product
is finally ready for the sparkling gems to be set. With the
grace of a ballet dancer and the strength of a weight lifter a
precious gem is carefully mounted into the jewelry. By giving
the jewelry a final polish a finished piece emerges from
a week’s or more worth of work. Each design receiving
the same special care and individual attention not possible by
machine.
Fabricated
jewelry is done with hammers striking on an anvil each stroke defining
the ultimate shape and texture of a piece. In
the past several years I have also studied and learned the art
of lapidary and can now create a piece of jewelry from cutting
the rough rock into a precious gem, casting or fabricating the
gold to setting the gems, taking it all the way from beginning
to the end. Very
few artists can perform every step of the process of creating
a piece of fine jewelry. It takes years of study, and practice
and passion. It is who I am, recreating the most
beautiful elements of the precious earth and my work stands for
all that beauty revealed.
